Obituary of Emmett Lee Hall

Emmett Lee "Sonny" Hall, 89, of Salem, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, May 28, 2016. He was born in Crockett, Va. (Wythe County), on September 30, 1926, the son of Lonnie and Halie Hall. He was predeceased by several siblings and son, Jerry Emmett "Catfish" Hall. Sonny served his country during World War II in the United States Army as a motor transport operator. He continued his career and remained a truck driver throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Gordon Hall, and his children, Betty DeHart (Eric) Thomas, Dennis (Susie) Hall, Danny Hall, Nellie (Ronnie) Prater, Eric (Pam) Hall, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are stepchildren, Lowell (Deanna) Belcher, Russell (Melissa) Belcher, and Dewayne (Melissa) Belcher; and one surviving sister, Eva J. Hartman (Tootie); very special nephews, Bubbie Hall and Jim Bob Joyce; and special friends, Bobby Thompson, T.C. Westmorland, and Jim Chittum. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association. A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Simpson Funeral Home.
