Obituary of Richard Terry Cooke

Richard T. "Rick" Cooke 62, of Roanoke passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley O. and Julianne Stone Cooke. Rick attended Cave Spring high school and worked for many years as a carpenter. He was employed by Building Specialists, Martin Brothers Contractors, U. S. Construction and Lionberger Construction Company before retiring due to disability. Rick's disability was caused by Huntington's disease, an inherited brain disorder that causes the progressive death of nerve cells in the brain. It affects body, mind (cognitive), and emotions (emotional/behavioral disorders). Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Pamela "Pam" Meador Cooke; son, Jeffrey B. "Jeff" Cooke and wife Stephanie; grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Cooke; brother, Robert Cooke and wife Brenda; sister, Julia Lee Cooke Peters, husband Jasper, nieces, Bobbie Jo Peters Lee and Crystal Peters and their children; sister, Dianne Cooke and her children and grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alton Meador, Jr., wife Fujiyo, and their daughter, Nancy Jarvis, husband Christopher and their sons Bryston and Ashtun. A celebration of Rick's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. The Rev. Morris Bennett will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
