Obituary of Troy Christopher Harris

Troy Christopher Harris, 46, of Bonsack, passed away on April 23, 2016 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Elaine Harris, Grandparents, Benjamin and Gladys Edwards, Arthur and Evelyn Harris, his in-laws, Paul and Ruby Strickland; sister-in-law, JoAnn Holland; brother-in-law’s, Don Greenwood and Micky Strickland.
Troy is survived by his wife, Gloria, his daughter, Kelsey and his son Noah, fur babies, Teddy Bear and Maggie Mae; father, Arthur Harris of Rocky Mount, NC; his brother Art Harris (Susan) of Knightdale, NC; a sister Laura Ehrenzeller (Brett) of Suffolk, VA; sister in law, Paula Gibson (Dewey) Catawba, VA and brother in law Rick Greenwood (Debbie) of Laurel, MD, a sister in law, Ruth Greenwood, Rocky Mount, VA and brother in law, Gerald Holland, Vinton, VA. He is also survived by his Uncles, Gene (Tobey) Edwards, Darwin (Wanda) Edwards, and Aunts Diane Edwards (Cynthia), Suzanne Williams, Virginia Albrecht and Jeanne Harris; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Troy also was blessed with a life-long best friend, Kevin Jordan and very close friends and colleagues, David Perez and Johanna Burton.
Troy graduated from Ferrum College with a degree in history and had a very successful career in hospital information technology consulting. He was formally employed by Carilion Health System, Superior Consultant Company and Huntzinger Management Group prior to starting his own company Harris Management Group. It was at Superior that he was the happiest and where he met and worked with some of the best people that remained close to him throughout the years; Dave, Johanna, Margaret, Dana, Angie, Waynetta, Sherry and many more. Troy loved to travel to new hospitals and had several cherished assignments. Such as, Queens Medical Center, HI; Detroit Medical Center, MI; St. Vincent’s, NY; and Central Maine Healthcare, ME.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Burgess, Dr. Kirtley, Rhonda (MISCU), Dr. Bolton and Laura (ER) from Lewis Gale Medical Center. Kathy Furr and Kathy Moses with Good Samaritan Hospice for their care and love to Troy. The K&K team were so wonderful to our family. They made this journey so much easier. And a special thank you to the William Byrd and Bonsack communities for all of your love and support, with extended thanks to Linda Carle and Lisa Stover.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24018, or to Zion Assembly Church of God, 1335 Kirk Avenue SE, Roanoke, Virginia 24013in Troy's honor.
A memorial service will be held 7:00pm Sunday May 1, 2016 in the Vinton War Memorial Hall, 814 East Washington Avenue, Vinton, Virginia 24179. Friends may visit with the family Sunday May 1, 2016 from 5:30pm until service time at 7:00pm at the Vinton War Memorial Hall.
