Obituary of Robert Lee Hypes, Jr.

Robert Lee Hypes, Jr. 48 of Roanoke passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April 6, 2016 during a tragic house fire. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed being outside hunting, fishing, or just looking at the scenery. While in high school, he started volunteering at his local Rescue Squad, Clearbrook Station 7. Once he was able to go on runs, he became a volunteer Firefighter for the next 15 years. A beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, he will be dearly missed by all, especially by his feline companion and best friend, “Blue Eyes”. He is survived by: his devoted parents, Sally and Robert; two sisters, Sally Pate and husband Robert of Altavista, Jennifer Riffle and husband Jimmy of Cave Spring; two nephews, Coy Lee Hypes and Dale Pate; and two nieces, Marissa Riffle and Georgia Riffle. He is further survived by his furry friend, Khai, and caregiver, Brinda Kinsey. He is preceded in death by: grandparents, Coy and Edna Peters, Charlie and Clara Greenway, along with Aunt, Nancy. A celebration of Robert's life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with the Rev. Joe Roberts officiating.
