Obituary of Orin Reed

Orin Lester Reed, 76 of Roanoke left this world for eternal rest on May 25, 2012. He was preceded by his parents, Horace and Elva Reed; sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Burger Kelly; a brother, Russell Reed and a brother-in-law, Allen Campbell. Surviving Orin is his loving wife and best friend, Pat Keller-Reed, three children, Pam Kearney (Chris), of Burke, Va., Tambra Wrenn, (Chris) of Roanoke and son, Damon Reed (Fawn) of Troutville; a step daughter, Glenda Keller and by his children's mother, Jean Simpson; five grandchildren, Patrick and Brian Kearney, Jenna Wrenn, Michael and Caelen Reed and an unofficially "adopted" granddaughter, Madison Yencha. Also surviving are his sisters, Bernice Haymaker (Don) of Las Vegas, Margaret Campbell of Eagle Rock and sister-in-law, Mary Sue Reed of Salem, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, golfing buddies and church family at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church. Orin had a special love for sports. He was a football and baseball coach for the sandlot teams, along with being a high school and college official for 25 years. He was voted high school referee of the year in 1976. And also was a goal judge for the Roanoke Express for several years. One of Orin's last request was to say goodbye to all the guys he came in contact with at the Hanging Rock Country Club and to tell them he loved them all "like a brother" Orin retired from his own business in 1996 after having spent most of his adult life in the copy machine business. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, Orin's wishes were that donations be made to the Rosalind Hills Baptist Church building fund or the food pantry. Friend may visit with the family Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 4:00-8:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating Orin's life will be held 11:00am Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in Rosalind Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Smith officiating.
