Gary Lee Kirby, 58, of Salem (formerly of Blue Ridge) passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Lee Kirby and a former K-9 companion, Mario. Gary was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. He was a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.Surviving are his mother, Margaret Kirby Ratcliff; brother, Raymond Kirby and wife Cindy; sisters, Judy Taylor and husband Mark, Cindy Rider; numerous nieces and nephews, Kelsey Taylor Sloan and husband Jared, Nicholas Taylor, Andrew Kirby, Kristin Kirby, Zachary Rider, Levi Rider, and Aaron Rider; great niece, Anne Sloan; great nephew, Jack Sloan and his faithful K-9 companion, Otis. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 in Glade Creek Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Roy Kanode. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
