Edith Adelene Barnes, 83, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, March 11, 2016. She was preceded by her husband, James Marion Barnes, parents, Alton and India C. Vest, son, Roger J. Barnes, and an infant sister, Mabel E. Vest. Edith retired from Maid Bess after 22 years of service and was a former employee of Rowe Furniture Company.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Dianne Barnes; grandchildren, Joel Barnes and wife Iliana, Meghan Biggert and husband Nick; Travis Overstreet and wife Val; special niece, Debbie Smith and husband Larry, and their children, Deana and her family; nephew, Danny Smith and his family; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Overstreet, Lucas Overstreet, and Isabella; brother, David M. Vest; niece, Annette Vest; and a nephew, David W. "DW" Vest.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road, 540-366-0707.
