Obituary of Shirley Ann Woolwine

Shirley Ann Gunter Woolwine went home to be with her Lord, and the love of her life, Robert her husband of 62 years on Friday, February 19, 2016. In addition to her husband she was preceded by her parents Millard and Vivian Gunter; brothers, Gordon and Gene; sister, Kathy King; niece, Jody King; Kathy's fiancé, George Bibb; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Evie Woolwine; sister-in-law, Joyce Wall, and a special sister-in-law, Betty Woolwine. Remaining to cherish Shirley's memory are her son, Robert G. (Bobby) Woolwine and wife Barb; daughter, Pamela and her husband Frank (Peanut) Steele; five step grandchildren, Donnie, Brandy, and Leslie of Christiansburg, Brandon of Northern Virginia and Matt of Pennsylvania; seven step great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sidney Gunter; devoted brother-in-law, Larry Woolwine; and sister-in-law, Becky Warren of Williamsburg. Shirley and Robert were mom and dad to many. Among those are Phil and Gail Clevenger and their sons, Mikey and Josh, and Chip Kiser to name a few. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, a special cousin, Norma Dalton and many friends at the Greenbrier. Shirley lived and worked in Salem for most of her life. The job she enjoyed the most was assistant General Manager of the Roanoke Express Hockey Team. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Christ First Church. c/o Patsy Obenchain, 3928 Gladden Road, Salem, VA 24153. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Shawn Tanner. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
