James C. Custer, 83, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 7, 2016. James served his country proudly in the US Army. James was preceded in death by his parents William and Annie Custer, as well as a brother Robert Custer. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years JoAnne Custer of Roanoke; brothers and sisters, David Custer, Helen Martin, and Janice Pugh; children, Patty Short of Roanoke, Carl Custer and wife Connie of Fuquay-Varina NC, Dwayne Custer and wife Francie of Vinton, Brian Custer and wife Jan of Taylorsville NC; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the VA Hospital and the Veterans Care Center for their care of James. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Custer, son, officiating.
