Obituary of Howard Barger

Howard C. Barger, 95, of Roanoke, departed this life on Monday, May 14, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on April 16, 1917, and will join his wife of 67 years, Catherine Barger, in Heaven. He was retired from the Norfolk and Western Railway. Mr. Barger was a member at North Roanoke Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. Surviving are his children, Randall Barger, Jerry Barger and wife, Theresa, Deena Parrish and husband, Lewis, and Rickey Barger and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Brian Barger and wife, Elizabeth, Jenny Blugerman and husband, David, Michelle Edmondson, Sherri Umberger and husband, David, and Cathy Youmans and husband, Brian; and great-grandchildren, Corey Umberger, Kayley Umberger, Megan Barger, Ryan Edmondson, Emily Barger, Amanda Youmans, Casey Edmondson, Emma Blugerman, Allison Youmans, and Matt Blugerman. Also surviving is his brother, Ralph Barger. The family offers a special thanks to the neighbors, the Musgroves and Hollifields; the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice; and the staff at Emeritus of Roanoke, for their many acts of kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation , 1742 E. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23228. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by Dr. Darryl Crim. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
