Obituary of Haywood Aubrey Saunders

Haywood A. Saunders, 84, of Vinton died peacefully at home Wednesday, January 27, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Saunders, parents, Charlie H. and Carrie Wheeler Saunders, one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Saunders served as a Paratrooper during the Korean War and retired from the Norfolk Southern Corporation.
Surviving are children, Cynthia (Edward) Murphy, Douglas Saunders, Clinton Saunders, Pamela (Jeff) Holdren, Stacy (Rhonda) Saunders, Jason (Janice) Saunders; thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, brother, Hubert (Cornelia) Saunders; sister, Evelyn (Sis) Hudson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project P O Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Glenn Stevens. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m Friday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707.
