John Preston Woody, 84, of Rocky Mount passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Patterson Woody. John was born in the Sontag community on September 16, 1931 a son of the late Albert T. and Mamie Preston Woody.
A lifelong farmer, John grew up on the farm where he developed a deep love and respect for farm life and animals, especially cows and dogs. He was a 1950 graduate of Franklin County High School.
Left to cherish his memory are three children, John A. Woody, Frances Woody, and Tony E. Woody; and a brother, Dennis Woody.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Franklin Health and Rehab for the excellent care they provided during John's illness.
The family will honor Mr. Woody's request that there be no formal funeral service just a gathering of friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road Roanoke. 366-0707
