Obituary of Thomas Edward Sluder

Thomas Edward "Tommy" Sluder, 34, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 25, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Franklin Sluder; grandparents, Thomas Edward and Blanche Widner Sluder, Harry and Dorothea Lester Hamlin; and an uncle, Roy Sluder. Tommy was a 2000 graduate of Northside High School. He loved to cook and enjoyed floats on the river, fishing, and hunting. Surviving are his daughter, Violet Catherine Sluder, and her mother, Michelle Sluder; mother and step/father, Catherine and Mel Swain; sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Don Powell; girlfriend, Amanda Coughlin; step brother, Stephen Swain and wife Lindsay; step/sister, Carrie Elizabeth Swain; uncle, Roger Sluder and wife Sonya; aunts, Freida Sarver and husband Paul, Teresa Barnes and husband Doug; nieces, Madison Swain and Abigail Nimmo; nephews, John Nimmo and Alexander Powell. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Building Fund C/O North Roanoke Baptist Church 6402 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Va. 24019. A celebration of Tommy's life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at North Roanoke Baptist Church with Dr. Darryl Crim and the Rev. Daniel Palmer officiating. Private interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
