Melissa (Missy) Wampler-Mabry, 47, of Roanoke passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 after a long battle with numerous health issues. She will spend her first Christmas in Heaven singing with the heavenly choir.Missy was preceded in death by her grandparents, LeRoy and Madaline Wampler, and Tom and Kitty Stultz, and her beloved uncle, Johnny Stultz.
She was born in Roanoke on October 5, 1968 which just happened to be her mothers' 19th birthday. She was a 1986 graduate of Northside High School where she was a cheerleader and a member of the school choir. Following her graduation from high school she attended and graduated from the Dental Hygiene Program at Virginia Western Community College. Missy had a lifelong love of music. She served as music director at several area churches and sang with the Virginians.
She is survived by her husband, Justin Mabry; mom and dad, Brenda and Bob Wampler; step daughters, Amber Westmoreland and husband Jay, Brandy Cole and husband Andrew; step granddaughter, Arianna Cole; brother, Bobby Wampler, wife Lynn, and their children, Trey, Drew, Nate and Tori; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alvin and Arlie Mabry; brother-in-law, Perry Mabry and wife Diane; sister-in-law, Lisa Lawson and husband Dennis; best friend, Kathy Rice; special friends, Lisa McCoy and Tera Scearce, and Stacy Fulton, who loved her like a mother; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family offers their special thanks to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice especially, Cary, Kathy, and Michelle.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the music ministry at North Roanoke Baptist Church 6402 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Va. 24019.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at North Roanoke Baptist Church by Dr. Darryl G. Crim. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Simpson Funeral Home. 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
