Obituary of Nancy Ann Dye

Nancy Ann (Smith) Dye, 84, of Roanoke was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2015. Nancy was the youngest of four children of Effie Garland (Duncan) and Conly Robert Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Dye, Sr., her parents, her step-mother, Sarah Elizabeth (Brewster) Smith, her brother, Carl Frank Smith, her infant sister, Betty Lois Smith, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Dye, and numerous aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her sister, Doris S. Funari of Scott Depot, WV (formerly of Bluefield), her daughter, Nancy (Dye) Cundiff and her husband, Richard, of Wirtz, Virginia; her son, James G. Dye, Jr. of Harrisonburg, Virginia, her son Robert D. Dye and his wife Marta of Fincastle; two grandchildren, Robert Conly Dye of Salem, and Grace Elizabeth Dye of Fincastle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born and raised in Bluefield, West Virginia, where she graduated from Beaver High School in 1949 and then attended Bluefield College. She worked at Bluefield Armature prior to her engagement and marriage to James Dye of Winchester, Virginia where they owned and operated Fairview and Runnymeade Farms. In 1966, with three children in tow, they moved to Roanoke where they made their home. Long a member of Roanoke's Northminster Presbyterian Church she was active in the church in various capacities, was a substitute teacher, a wonderful and creative homemaker, and helped with the operation of Hollins Hardware when the family acquired that business following her husband's retirement from the Norfolk and Western Railway. She loved to travel and to be a participant in all family activities. She will be missed by all.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the many caregivers who cared for Nancy for the last several years.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the veteran's support ministry of Steve Wingfield Ministries 2389 Grace Chapel Road Harrisonburg, VA 22801, or to the Northminster Presbyterian Church memorial fund, or to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Northminster Presbyterian Church 3911 Greenland Avenue Roanoke, Va. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and again from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
