Philip Rosdol Honorable, Intelligent, Courageous, Awesome and fiercely loyal to the New York Giants Football Team. Those characteristics described Philip Rosdol, 89, who died peacefully at home on Monday, November 9, 2015. Philip was born and educated in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy during World War II, and participated in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Returning home, he enrolled at Brooklyn College where he was Captain of the football team, and where he met his future wife. After graduating from college, Philip began his career in retail management. In 1973 his work brought him and his family to Roanoke. He joined Beth Israel Synagogue and became a member of the Pulpit Committee. He also was a volunteer at Highland Park School and with the Mended Hearts Association. Philip was predeceased by his son Eric. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Rosana K. Rosdol; his children and their spouses, Leslie Rosdol and Steuart Liebig, Kathy Rosdol, David and Heather Rosdol; and his adored grandchildren, Anya, Aron, Emma, Dalton, Sam and Jakob. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Beth Israel Synagogue, the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 in Beth Israel Cemetery by Rabbi Chana Leslie Glazer. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
