Obituary of Paul Frederick Beveridge

Paul Frederick Beveridge, 89, passed on to his heavenly resting place with Jesus Thursday, October 15, 2015 while at his home in Salem, Va. Paul was a WWII United States Navy veteran and served as a medic in the South Pacific. Accordingly, his nickname in the Seabee's 27th Naval Battalion was "Doc." He was employed by Lane Furniture Co., Rocky Mount, VA and retired in 1994. A navy man and a sailor, he was a member of VISA Yacht Club at Smith Mountain Lake where he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Paul treasured his family and was strong of faith. He was known by those close to him for his beautiful prayers of thanks. As an active member of the SWVA "Walk to Emmaus" community, he touched many lives. His witty humor paired with friendly overtones made his personality stand out as he never met a stranger. He was a kind, generous and loving man, father and grandfather who shared heartfelt words and found joy in seeing others smile. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 55 years, Nancy Beveridge; his daughter Linda Beveridge Gibson and husband Clarke of Bedford; sons, Scott F. Beveridge and wife Sheri of Roanoke; Douglas P. Beveridge of Richmond; grandchildren, Anna and Adam Gibson, Stuart Beveridge, Sierra Schoening and husband Nick, Gavin Beveridge; great grandchild, Mason Newton; sisters Viola Cole of New York, and Anita Anderson of Manassas, and many cherished relatives and friends. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Beveridge; sister, Dianna Fishel, preceded him. A funeral service celebrating Mr. Beveridge's life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA with Dr. Bob Moore officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem VA. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home (540-366-0707
