Obituary of Allen Wade Kendrick

Allen W. Kendrick Sr., 93, of Roanoke, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lena Davidson Kendrick.Mr. Kendrick retired as sales manager with Nelson Roanoke Corporation after 40 years of service. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a membr and past President of the Williamson Road Lions Club where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for dedicated humanitarian service for 1993-1994.Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mildred Wray Kendrick; son, Wade Kendrick Jr. and wife, Sherry; granddaughter, Cynthia Sutton and husband, Andy; sisters, Theresa Hylton, Patricia Hancock, and Nina Bowles; brother, Jack Kendrick and wife, Velma; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including a special great niece, Stephanie Wallis and husband, Adam.The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Carilion Hospice Services and At Home Caregivers for their many acts of kindness and compassion.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Lions Club of Virgina or to St. Francis of Assisi.Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Drake Caudill and the Rev. John Cochran. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m on Friday, September 11, 2015, at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
