Gertrude Clark Hodges Mullins, 87, of Boones Mill, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. She was preceded in death by two sons, James E. and Clyde D. Hodges; her first husband, Joseph E. Hodges; and several sisters and brothers. Gertrude worked as a nurse's aide at Liberty Manor for many years. She was a founding member of Living Waters Baptist Church in Vinton and loved to play guitar and sing gospel music. Surviving are her beloved husband, Donald V. Mullins; children, Judy Meador and husband, Jerry, of Bedford, Calvin Hodges and Debbie, of Buchanan, Kenneth Hodges ,of Vinton, Esther Gordon and husband, Richard, of Evington, John and Russell Hodges, of Ocoee, Fla., and Dennis Hodges and wife, Barbara, of Bedford; stepdaughter, Janie Butterworth, of Boones Mill; 17 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great- grandchildren; and nieces and nephews including a beloved niece, Dorothy Mae Allen, of Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Living Waters Baptist Church, 927 Vale Avenue, Vinton, VA 24179. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Barney Arthur and Pastor Norman Baker. Interment will follow in Mullins Family Cemetery, Boones Mill. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
