Obituary of Robert William Kaiser
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert (Bob) William Kaiser, who often went by Doc, passed away on July 19, 2015. He was surrounded by his loved ones and went peacefully.
Bob was born in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania on May 2, 1938 to Margaret Irene and Albert Merrell Kaiser. He attended University of Virginia for his undergraduate education and received his Doctor of Dental Science at the Medical College of Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Bess Kaiser, and their five children: Linn Redway; Bobby Kaiser, and his wife Pam; Al Kaiser, and his wife Leigh; Paul Kaiser; and Margaret Taylor, and her husband Chris. Bob’s surviving grandchildren are: Luke Kaiser, Ethan Redway, Kirsten Kaiser, Eliza Redway, Cole Kaiser, Karl Kaiser, Este Kaiser, Dalton Kaiser, and Matthew Taylor. His sister Millie Fleetwood, and her husband Stephen also survive him. Additional surviving family members include: Becky Sagers, Connie Bess, Renna Shaver, Jon Redway, Karen Kaiser, and Michelle Kaiser.
Bob Kaiser was an active member of Salem Presbyterian Church for many years. In addition to practicing dentistry in Roanoke for over 45 years, he served as a Major in the United States Army Dental Corps from 1965-1968 at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He continued to serve his country in the Army Reserve until his unit was disbanded.
Bob was a fighter. Whether it was over politics, directions, or his ten-year battle with cancer, he rarely lost and never backed down. Even in his last days he kept fighting until all of his children arrived at his bedside.
The family thanks Drs. Richards and Hess for the constant care and attention over the past decade. In addition, the family wishes to thank Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Jha for their commitment and care. The family also appreciates the treatment provided by Dr. Mark, the team at the Lewis Gale Medical ICU, and the Lewis Gale medical team supporting room 341. Your compassion and kindness through Bob's illness, and your efforts to extend and comfort his final moments are deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in memory of Bob be given to the American Cancer Society.
