Albert Carter (Al) Johnson 75 of Moneta passed away on Monday July 6, 2015 after a long and valiantly fought illness at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA surrounded by his family. Al was born in Grand Ridge, FL, September 16, 1939 and was raised in Marianna, FL. He attended Berry College in Rome, GA, enlisted, and served proudly in the United States Army six years. He lived most of his life near Baltimore, MD where he was the owner and president of Concept II Graphics and Printing. He retired in 2010 and moved to Moneta.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rufus “Johnny” and Tommie Johnson of Marianna, FL, brother, Dr. Julian Johnson of Atlanta, GA, and a step-daughter Tanya Adams of Roanoke.
Al is survived by his wife, Kay Stallard Johnson; stepdaughters, Tommie Clifton (Johnny), Virginia Beach, Teresa Oberg (Dave),Fishersville, Trina Adams, Roanoke; stepson, Taylor Adams (Missy), St. Joseph, IL; sister, Shelbie Cummings, Marianna, FL; brother, Harrison Johnson, Havre de Grace, MD; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Addison and Elizabeth Stallard, Big Stone Gap; sister in-law, Sharon Daniels, Big Stone Gap; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Patty Stallard, Wytheville; sister-in-law, Ann Johnson, Tiger, GA; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren who all lovingly call him "Gramps", along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Al will always be missed and cherished.
A memorial service celebrating Al’s life with Military Rites will be held 2:00pm Saturday July 18, 2015 in Simpson Funeral Home with Rev, Troy Mays officiating. Family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00pm till service time.
