Obituary of Walter Carlton Shelton

Walter Carlton Shelton, 88, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 25, 2015. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Mary Elizabeth (Brasefield) Shelton; his parents, Maude and Felix Shelton; granddaughter, Julie Shelton; great grandson Jeremiah Lee Shelton; and brother Thomas Shelton. Mr. Shelton retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation after forty one years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a long-time member of New Life Christian Ministries. He will be fondly remembered for his fun-loving spirit, his faith in God, love for the Holy Scriptures, and his generous service to church and community. A loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, he will be dearly missed by all. Surviving are his two sons, James Byron Shelton and wife Sally of Oklahoma, Jeffery Lynn Shelton and special friend and caregiver, Mydonna Harris of Roanoke; grandchildren, John Shelton and wife Grace of Ireland, Joey Shelton of Oklahoma, Jennifer Elizabeth Foyer and husband Raymond of Wisconsin, Kelly Anne Mudd and husband Timothy of North Carolina, Justin Lanier Shelton and wife Sara of Bedford; eight great grandchildren, Thomas, Samuel, Gloria, Michael, Jackson, Silas, Mary, and Caleb; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Home Instead Care for their care and support during the past year. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Life Christian Ministries. A service celebrating Mr. Shelton's life will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at New Life Christian Ministries 5745 Airport Road by the Rev. Walter L. Wood.
