Obituary of William Hampton Blessard

William Hampton "Peanut" Blessard, 66, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 9, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Linda Mae Blessard, parents, Myrle and Lucille Rucker Blessard, sister Jean Flowers (Donald), and brother-in-law, Frank King.
Mr. Blessard retired after 32 years of service with General Electric. He was a longtime coach of sports teams in both the Glenvar and Vinton areas and served in the Engineering Department in the U S Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of the Criminal Justice Program at Virginia Western Community College. In recent years he enjoyed bowling and gospel music.
Surviving are his sons, Frankie Austin Blessard and wife Deirdre of Savannah, William Wesley Blessard of Roanoke; grandchildren, Kaleigh Madeline Blessard, Caleb Nathaniel Blessard, and Hampton Michael Blessard; brothers, Jessie Blessard, J.R. "Butch" Blessard and wife Sandy; sisters, Lois King, Mildred Divers (Joe), Sue Meador (Buddy), Patricia Milleham (Frankie), Shirley Robinson (Lee); devoted friend and soul mate, Doris Guilliams; traveling friends, Shirley and Ricky Jones; little K-9 buddy "Troubles" and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p..m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
