Obituary of Virginia Stuart Vaughn

Virginia Atwood Vaughn, 89, of Roanoke passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 8, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Maude Prater Atwood and Thomas Atwood of Rich Creek, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Solomon Vaughn, her sisters, Dorothy, Aloma, and Aletta; and brothers, Oscar, David, Cloyd, James, Jim and Ed Atwood. Surviving are her daughters, Linda and husband Charles Broughman, and Sharon (Sharlene) Pultz all of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by her grandsons, Charles Broughman, Jr., Michael Broughman and wife Tracy, and granddaughters, Cindy Broughman, Tonja Johnson and husband David, Sharon Ann Beche and husband Bobby, Tamara Champagne and husband Rob; great grandchildren, Sol and Megan Johnson, Ashton, Carrie and Justin Broughman, Laurie and Lily Beche, and Zach and Zoe Ronan; great great grandchildren, Aiden Champagne and Anayshia Johnson, brother, Clayton Atwood and wife Nedra; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank a very special niece, Diane Sheets for her love and support for many, many years as well as caregiver and niece Katie Beche for her kind and loving care. "Our mother was the heart and strength of our family and will forever remain in our hearts and minds. The light of her life was her grandchildren and she dearly loved each and every one." The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road . Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at a later date.
