Dr. Aaron Lynnard Beavers, Jr., 90, beloved pharmacist and physician for 50 years in Roanoke, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Surviving are his wife, Elisabeth H. Beavers, children: Dr. Lynnda S. Beavers, the Rev. James L. Beavers (Anne), Nancy F. McDuffie (Robert), Mark C. Beavers (Joan), Rebecca A. Beavers (Nellie), Dr. Jenny B. Powers (Steve); step-sons, CDR Andrew C. Garlington (USN Ret.) (Linda); LTC Army Michael P. Garlington (Kim); grandchildren: James A. Beavers (Katie), Leslie C. Wood (Jimmy), John A. Beavers (Jenevieve), Dr. Lucas A. McDuffie (Lauren), Lauren E. Rhodes (Zack), Seth R. McDuffie; step-grandchildren, ENS Emily Garlington, Brian T. & S. Matthew Garlington, Aiden P. & Kayleigh Q. Garlington; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Dr. William Tramel Beavers. Memorials to Northview United Methodist Church- Choir, or your favorite charity are suggested. Born in Faulkner, Mississippi, Aaron went to grade school in Arkansas where his parents were his first teachers. They moved back to New Albany, MS, for his high school years. He then attended Ole Miss two years before joining the Army during WWII where he served two years as a heavy equipment operator, mostly in Belgium. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Ole Miss graduating in 1948 with a degree in Pharmacy. He practiced pharmacy in Laurel, MS, then moved to Roanoke, VA, where he practiced for 8 years before entering the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. He graduated with a medical degree in 1960 and, after internships, returned to Roanoke to begin a medical practice with Dr. Frank Johnson, in the Hollins area. He then moved down Williamson Road to practice with Dr. Herman Brubaker until he opened his own practice for the last 15 years of practice. His entire practice life was 42 years. Much of his time practicing medicine took time away from his family, however he enjoyed Boy Scout activities with his sons and gave back any monies paid to him for physicals to the Scouting Program. He afforded his children music lessons and instruments. They vacationed at the beach and traveled o see much of the country during vacation times. In addition to serving many years as physician to the Northside High School football team, Dr. Beavers enjoyed traveling, vegetable gardening, birds, solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and listening to classical and various genres of music. He sang in the church choir and supported music programs in the community. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Northview United Methodist Church 521 Ridgecrest Drive Roanoke, Va. by the Rev. Joe Klotz, Dr. John N. Vest, and the Rev. James L. Beavers. A reception will immediately follow in the church Family Life Center. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory.
