Obituary of Carmel Lorraine Wheeler

Carmel Auth Wheeler, of Salem passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015. Carmel grew up in Arlington, Va. and lived in Oklahoma and Texas before settling in Roanoke in 1989. She was an avid gardener, worked on the Community Arboretum at VWCC, as well as several private gardens in Roanoke County. Carmel enjoyed ballroom dancing, hiking in our local mountains, baking for her family, going to the RSO and being a hospice volunteer.Carmel leaves behind three children, Paul Smith, of Walnut Creek, Calif., William Smith and Olivia Smith; her husband, David; eleven brothers and sisters and her mother, Mary Carmel Auth.A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Unity Church of Roanoke Valley.
