Obituary of Helen Spence Rowe

Helen Spence Rowe 88 of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Sunday May 24, 2015. She was preceded by her husband Joseph Rowe, Jr. her son, Richard S. “Scotty” Spence, three brothers, John “Bud”, Bob, and Bill, and a sister, Peggy. Mrs. Rowe retired from Nursing after many years of service at Roanoke Memorial and Roanoke Community where she was a part of initiating the Respiratory Department. A member of the First Christian Church in Salem. In her free time, she enjoyed her garden, bowling and traveling with family and friends. A very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be dearly missed by all. Left to cherish her memory are children, Susie Craig and husband Michael of Roanoke, Joseph W. Rowe, Sr. and wife Linda of Catawba; six grandchildren, Brian Spence, Justin Spence, William Perez, Joseph Rowe, Jr., Ricky Rowe, and Michelle Rowe; eleven great grandchildren; brothers, Jack Spence and wife Sue of Texas, Roger Spence of Salem; daughter-in-law, Gayla Spence of Florida; along with a dear friend, Ruth Mercer of Roanoke. Family would like to give a special thank you to the Doctors and staff at the Woodhaven Nursing Home for all their care and support of Mrs. Rowe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodhaven Nursing Home in her memory. A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Rowe’s life will be held 12:00pm Wednesday May 27, 2015 at Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Carawan officiating. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00am until service time at the funeral home.
