Obituary of Malen Jane Eakin
On Thursday, July 14, 2022, Malen Jane Corbett Eakin, age 89, passed away quietly at home and went to be with the Lord. Family who preceded her in death include her parents Charles Harper Corbett and Elsie McCellan Pritt Corbett; her husband Grover Ralph Eakin; her daughter Kellan Gray Eakin Farmer; her son Lowell Edwin Eakin; her brothers, Jimmy, Gerald, Hugh, Ray Harper and Douglas Corbett; and her sisters, Patsy Herold and Shirley Verges. Malen was a natural caregiver, fabulous cook and always a gracious host. She worked as a registered nurse and cared wonderfully for Ralph in their retirement. Malen loved music, especially in worship to the Lord, who she spoke to every day. Survivors include her son Lenden Alan Eakin, his wife Kimberly and their children, Mariah Pearl Eakin and Nathan Arthur Eakin; her son Samuel Garnett Eakin, his wife Diane and their daughter, Grace Victoria Eakin; Lowell’s wife, Lesle’ and their children, Benjamin Eakin and Joshua Eakin, his wife Maria and their children (Malen’s great-grandchildren) Declan, Kaylee and Lydia Eakin; her sister, Diana Smick and husband Bill; her brother Martin and wife, Mary; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. Visitation will be at Simpson Funeral Home on Peters Creek Road from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, and a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 29 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Airport Road, Roanoke, Virginia.
