Iris Maxine Benois Long of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the age of 85. She was the daughter of the late Sylvester William and Ida Shively Benois. In addtion to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, (the love of her life) Lucius Jennings Long, Jr., as well as brothers, Edward, Earl, Issac, and John Benois, and sisters, Inez Jennings, Jean Bryan and Louise Benois. Surviving are her children, Stephanie Long, Belinda (Steve) Carter, Ida Renaee (Henry) Bulaski; son, Gary (Judy) Long; grandchildren, Steve (Beverly Able) Carter, Jr, William Carter, Denise (Tim) Sprouse, Sabrey Dent; six great grandchildren; sisters, Anita Arnold, Mildred Lucas, Barbara Guthrie, Sybil Downey, and Pat (Raymond) Stanley; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff at Spring Tree Health and Rehabilitation Center for their gentle kindness and care. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
