William L. "Billy" Boothe, 79, of Roanoke passed away Monday at his home after a brief battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Lewis Boothe and Virginia Boothe Brown, sister, Shirley Gillespie and brothers, Eugene, Buford, Paul and Donald Boothe. Billy worked for many years as a guard at several locations in Roanoke including, Carilion Hospitals, Brinks, and the Poff Federal Building. He served in the U S Army during the Korean War and was an avid Virginia Tech fan. Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews including a special niece and family, Debra Lee, husband Ricky and their family. A special thanks to Kim Glessner and Valerie White for the many hours of care provided during Billy's illness. The family also would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for their many acts of kindness. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
