William A. "Bill" Rye, 70 of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 26, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Della Puckett Rye, sisters, Ann Whittaker and Hazel Lawson and a brother Arlin Rye. Mr. Rye served as a Medic in the Army and was the proud owner of R and R Carpet Service. Surviving are his daughters, Della Akers and husband Scott of Riner; Margaret Howell and husband Scott of Bonsack; Sherri McDaniel and husband Adam of Roanoke; grandchildren, Will and Hanna Howell, and Seth and Kelsey McDaniel; sister, Edie Tankesley and husband Bob of Vinton; brother, Charlie Rye and wife Jeanne of Roanoke; many beloved nieces and nephews, and a life long friend, Richard "Birdeye" Birch. The family offers a special thanks to Dr. Beverley Brown and her team at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their many acts of kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society 2840 Electric Road Roanoke, Virginia 24018. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 3014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Adam McDaniel. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
