Dorothy (Dottie) Jennings Atkinson, 70, of Salem went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 19, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents Elwood "Poppie" and Rosa Jennings, brother, Donald Jennings and nephew, Daniel "Scooter" Jennings. Mrs. Atkinson was a member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church. Surviving are her children, Kay Brown and husband Marty of Salem; Sandra Fike and husband Kevin; Wayne Atkinson and wife Ruby all of Bedford; Lisa Woods and husband Rob of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; brothers, Douglas Jennings and wife Carol of Knoxville; Richard Jennings and wife Rachel of Roanoke; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Kyle and Linda Atkinson. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Fresenius Medical Care 2021 Apperson Drive Salem, Virginia 24153. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
