Obituary of Lucille Shelor

Lucille Epperly (Lucy) Shelor, 90, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 28, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Frazier Epperly and Flora Ocie Howery Epperly, husband Beverly Milton Shelor and her thirteen siblings. Mrs. Shelor grew up in Floyd County and moved to Roanoke after high school. She and her husband were the owners of B. M. Shelor Sheet Metal Company where she served as secretary and treasurer. Lucy was an avid gardener and landscaper. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, archery, serving as a volunteer at Lewis Gale Hospital, and getting together with her girlfriends to socialize and play dominoes. In her later years she was an artist and writer. A dedicated and devoted member of Villa Heights Baptist Church she had served as a Trustee, a member of the finance committee, and a Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Villa Heights Lions Club. Surviving are her daughter, Janet S. Wooddy and husband Chips of Troutville; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the numerous Doctors and other medical professionals at Lewis Gale Hospital and Clinic, Good Samaritan Hospice, Friendship Rehabilitation Center and Friendship Home Care for their many acts of kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Villa Heights Baptist Church 4080 Challenger Avenue Roanoke, Va. 24019 or to the Roanoke County Rescue Squad # 5 7401 Barrens Road Roanoke, Va 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Jake Huffman. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
