Obituary of David Mullins

David H. (Dave) Mullins, 70, of Salem went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 26, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Linnie Mullins, his first wife, Sallie (Kent) Mullins, a son, Dean Mullins, and an infant great grandson, Hayden Isaiah Puckett and brothers, Ralph and Lindberg Mullins. Dave was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy. Additionally, he was a Master Mason and member of Melrose Masonic Lodge, a member of the Kazim Shrine Temple (where he was a past captain of the Shrine Motor Patrol), and achieved the level of Pilgrim in the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a graduate of National Business College and served as a motor patrol officer on the Newport News Police Department from 1963-1966. Dave was the owner and operator of Star City Auto Parts. His hobbies included being an avid golfer and motorcyclist, and was a lover of all types of antiques and enjoyed listening to and playing music. Dave was an individual who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was completely dedicated to his large and ever growing family. Surviving are his loving wife of 37 years, Judy Mullins; children, Adria Newman and husband Gary of Waxhaw, N.C.; Denise English and husband Bill of Salem; Katy Walker and husband Steve of Richardsville, Va.; Jerome Mullins and wife Rebekah of Salem; Mark Mullins and wife Kim of Roanoke; Michael Mullins and wife Ann of Inez, Kentucky; twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; brother, Edgar Mullins and wife Vergie of Ocala, Fla.; sisters, Edna Horne and husband Gilbert, Corina Payne and husband Estel all of Paynesville, West Virginia; Carolyn Bowles and Brenda Lyons and husband Larry all of Lindside West Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children 2900 Rocky Point Drive Tampa, Florida 33607. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Gary Hash. Masonic rites by Melrose Masonic Lodge will follow. A second service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Summit Missionary Baptist Church in Paynesville, West Virginia. Interment will follow in the Mullins Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
