Obituary of Franklin Moricle

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 Franklin Heyden Moricle 86 of Moneta passed away on February 13, 2014. Born July 9, 1927 in Williamson, West Virginia, he is the son of the late John B. Moricle and the late Anna Doss Moricle. Frank was also preceded in death by his brothers, John B. Moricle, Jr. and Archie Moricle. Frank graduated from Williamson High School and later from Morehead State University and Peabody College of Vanderbilt University with BS and MA degrees respectively. He also attended the University of Kentucky and played football at both Morehead State and the University of Kentucky. He served proudly in the United States Army during World War II. After a successful career as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and science supervisor, he retired from Roanoke County Schools. Left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife, Edna M. Moricle; brother, Billie Moricle; sister-in-law, Phyllis Moricle; three nieces; two nephews; and his precious cat, Blackie. The family would like to express their appreciation for the professional and compassionate support given by Home Based Primary Care from the VA and Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Many thanks go to the caregivers who helped Frank with his journey, Sylvia, LaErica, Vera (Bella, Bella), Lisa, Teresa, Ronda and Connie. Appreciation is also expressed to Gregory Jamison, MD and Nancy Reed, RN of the VA and to Joanna Asselin, RN of Gentle Shepherd Hospice. As Frank requested, there will be no visitation or service. His remains will rest peacefully in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Memorial gifts may be made to the Science Museum of Western Virginia, 1 Market Square, Roanoke, VA, 24011 in Frank's name.
