James Melvin "Mel" DeLong, 85, of Vinton went home to be with the Lord, Friday December 27, 2013. He was preceded in death by two children Stevie and Jimmy DeLong, mother, father and three brothers. Mr. DeLong retired from the Precision Fabric Group. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Patricia "Pat" DeLong; children, Tommy DeLong, Susie DeLong, Jacob DeLong, Billy DeLong and wife Sandra; grandchldren, Joshua DeLong, Fisher and Elaina Ashe; and special friends Patty Bailey and Pat and Raymond Stanley. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Amedisys Hospice 1312 W. Main Street Salem, Va. 24153. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
