Obituary of Christopher Venable

Christopher Lee (Chris) Venable 38 of Vinton went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 24, 2013. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dennis Taliaferro, grandmother, Lois Venable, and a special friend, Sandy Bowling. Christopher was a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, an Eagle Scout, and worked as a tax appraiser for the Wampler and Eanes Appraisal Group. He was an avid outdoors man and a devout "Wahoo" Fan. Chris loved all children and considered it a privilege to serve as Godfather to Chad and Dana Shelton's children. Surviving are his father and mother, Gary and Donna Venable of Vinton; sister, Amanda Paxton and husband Jarrod of Moneta; very special niece, Nikkolette Paxton; grandmothers, Thelma Taliaferro of Roanoke; Arna Mae Sowers of Salem; grandfather, John Venable of Bossier City, Louisiana; Fiancee, Kim Dorton and her son Skyler; aunts and uncles, Carol and Henry Grim, Curtis and Kay Sowers all of Salem; Kelley and Sky Elliott of Bossier City, Louisiana; Dr. Riley Venable and wife Kathleen of Houston, Texas; numerous cousins and friends too numerous to mention. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the UVa Health Foundation, Neurology in Honor of Christopher Venable PO Box 800773 Charllottesville, Va. 22908, or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network 1500 Rosecrans Avenue Suite 200 Manhattan Beach, California 90266. Funeral services will be conducted Noon Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Green Ridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Greg Moser. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road and at the church from 10 until service time on Saturday.
