Obituary of Joyce Smith

Joyce H. Smith of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday October 27, 2013, following a long battle with cancer. Throughout the fight, she never gave up her faith. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Richard E. Hatcher; grandparents, William and Vivian Hatcher and Bill and Treva Battle. She is survived by her beloved husband, soul mate, and best friend, Donald R. Smith (Randy), who she loved with all of her heart. Also left to cherish her memory are daughters Leslie A. Graham and her husband Chuck, Tanya L. Toney and her husband Kenneth; and son, Donald R. Smith (Buck) and his wife Cammie; four grandchildren who gave her so much joy and love, Bailey B. Graham, Holden C. Toney, Avery M. Smith, and Rylie B. Smith. Also surviving are her mother Nina B. Hatcher; sister Judy H. Asbury and her husband Norman; brother Richard E. Hatcher, Jr., and his wife Donna. She also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Jesse Smith, and his wife Debbie, and Bert Smith; uncles, the Reverend Darden B. Battle and his wife Carol and Fred Battle; cousins, Dreama and Curtis Ayers, and numerous other relatives and friends. Joyce enjoyed her garden clubs, North Lakes, Sugar Loaf, and loved the time she spent helping at her church, Rosalind Hills Baptist Church. Joyce wished to thank the Carilion Department of Gyn Oncology as well as her church family at Rosalind Hills for all their love and support. A memorial service will be held 11:00am Monday November 4, 2013 at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 10:00am till service time Monday. The Reverend Darden B. Battle and the Reverend Brad Smith will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rosalind Hills Baptist Church, 2712 Brandon Avenue, SW, Roanoke, Virginia 24015.
