Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Barr 67 of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 19, 2013. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jane and Henry Barr, grandparents, Roy and Mamie Beem, aunt, Pat Hurt and uncle Roy Beem. She was a 1963 graduate of Roanoke Catholic High School and a 1979 graduate of Roanoke College. Betty worked for many years as a Radiologic Technologist. She had recently retired from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Surviving are her brothers, Henry L.E. Barr, Jr. and wife Fran of Gig Harbor, Washington; William Michael Barr and wife Judy of Matthews, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Ginny LaPorte and husband Rick, Mindy Farah and husband Ray, Chad Michael Barr and wife Melissa, and their daughter Katlyn, Jason Russell Barr and wife Kati, Steven David Barr; and cousins and friends too numerous to mention. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 26 2013 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church by Monsignor Thomas Miller. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
