Nannie Lou Steele Slate, 80, of Riner went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 18, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert Frank Slate, parents, Mary and James Oliver Steele, sister, Colleen Reynolds and a niece Rita Gail Reynolds. Mrs. Slate retired from the dietary department at the Salem V A Medical Center. She was a senior citizen dispatcher for the Montgomery County Sherriffs Department and a member of the Riner Ruritan Club. Surviving are her son, Leon H. Slate and wife Tammy of Roanoke; grandson, Weston Slate; step granddaughter, Amber Wilson; sisters, Myrtle Addison of Wytheville and Bessie Reynolds and husband Clyde of Florida; step brother, Clyde Austin of Richlands and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Noon Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
