Obituary of Elmer Morton

Elmer Felix Morton 82 of Roanoke County went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2013 in the Richfield Retirement Community Complex. He is the son of the late Kennedy and Cora Morton. Elmer was preceded by his wife, Shirley Yelton Morton. Elmer will be deeply missed by his surviving family, two daughters, Beth Fitzgerald and husband Ralph of Roanoke, Amy Morton of Roanoke; two sons, Bryan Morton and wife Jenny of Newport News, John Morton and wife Julia of Troutville; six grandchildren, Loren and Kristen Morton, Kyndall Fitzgerald, Jacob and Lucas Roberts, Jade Morton; a brother, Alfred Morton of Pulaski and a sister, Irene Buckland of Roanoke; Being the youngest of ten children, Elmer also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins as well as many dear friends and neighbors who will miss his loving nature and crazy sense of humor. Elmer was born January 8, 1931 in Camden-on-Gauley, WV. As a young man, he served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War before marrying his bride, Shirley Marie Yelton of Austinville, VA. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who stayed close to his children and grandchildren. For nearly 50 years, he enjoyed being a Barber, a job well-suited to a man who loved meeting and talking to people. A funeral service celebrating Elmer's life will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Simpson Funeral Home with Bishop Dr. John T. Cahill officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm Tuesday August 13, 2013 and from 12:30pm till service time Wednesday at the funeral Home.
