Obituary of Sue Ross

Sue Lambert Deaton Ross, 87, died August 3, 2013 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the daughter of Frank Scott Deaton and Mary Esther Lambert Deaton, and the widow of William Larry Ross to whom she was married for 48 years.
Surviving are her two daughters: the Reverend Suzanna Ross Helms and her husband, Hank, and Margaret Ross Schultze and her husband, Robert. Also surviving is her brother, Frank Lambert Deaton; grandchildren Matthew Ross Helms, Sarah Thomas Helms, Carl Nicholas Schultze (Laura), Gavin Robert Schultze; and great-grandson Nicholas Robert Schultze.
Sue was a faithful, long-time member of Second Presbyterian Church where she was an elder and former clerk of the session. She sang in the choir for many years, taught Sunday school, and was a moderator of Presbyterian Women. She was a life member of that organization. She had also served as president of the local and national Madison College Alumni Associations. She was a graduate of James Madison University.
Her life's work was at Hollins University. During her tenure as director of financial aid she was president of the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA). She was a life member of VASFAA which honored her with the establishment of the Sue Deaton Ross Endowed Scholarship Fund.
The memorial service will be at 11:00 on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Second Presbyterian Church, 214 Mountain Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. A reception will follow.
Please do not send flowers. Sue's favorite charity was the Help Fund of Second Presbyterian Church. Memorial gifts may be made to the Help Fund, the Sue Deaton Ross Endowed Scholarship Fund or the charity of the donor's choice. Donations to the scholarship fund may be sent to Ms. Biz Daniel, VASFAA Treasurer, c/o Sue Deaton Ross Scholarship Fund, 193 Ellen Drive, Evington, VA 24550.
