Was so sad to hear of Sue's passing. I was a '72 grad of Hollins. I worked with Sue as her "gal Friday" when she was in the science department. I returned to Hollins 8 years later to become an Admissions Rep. and worked with her again when she became the Financial Aid Director. She was such a dear, patient, and loving person. I will always remember her fondly. She will be missed by all.

I worked with Mrs. Ross in the Admissions office as part of my work-study program at Hollins...she looks as pretty as ever. I remember going to school with her daughter Susan...now she is a Rev. great. I am sorry for your loss, your mom is the same age, 87, as my dear mom. Love to all of you, Jill Snyder Morris, 78.

Mrs. Ross provided incredible support to me during my first years at Hollins. She went above and beyond financial guidance with kindness, understanding and generosity. As a freshman, I found Sunday evenings the hardest, when I'd be the most homesick. Countless times, she would give me a quick call to meet her in the circle behind Tinker, where she'd drop off something comforting, like still-warm banana bread. She was a lovely, giving woman; I am forever grateful to have known her. Sending prayers and best wishes to her family and all those who miss her.

Prayers of comfort and strength to Sue's family. Sue Deaton Ross always showed kindness to all. When I lost my home to fire the first day of the October 2000 VASFAA conference, I was reeling. Sue's card was the first to arrive with words of encouragement, strength and comfort. I know she had a huge impact on so many lives and will be sorely missed.

In 1981, I was a nervous Hollins freshman, going through a hard time. Sue Ross was there for me, and was a model of dignity and graciousness. God blessed me in my knowing her. May you be sustained and strengthened in your memories of this very lovely woman. She always had a kind word to share.

I met Sue when I was a prospective student, and I was sad when she retired during my freshman year. I was the first person in my family to go to college, and we were very nervous about the cost. Hollins was incredibly generous, putting together a package of scholarships and grants, but on top of that, Sue also was so warm and kind. She reassured me that it would be okay, and it was. She made it clear to me that I was a welcome and important part of the Hollins community. At a very exciting time of my life, thanks to Sue, I was able to focus on the excitement and not the stress of finances.

There was never a finer lady or friend than Sue. She was a mentor and my model. How very blessed we all have been to have had her in our lives and to know she lives on in our hearts. There are so many treasured times. Today I'm remembering meeting Sue on a train in New Carrolton MD traveling to the Big Apple a July not too many years ago when NASFAA was there. Rita hosted us and we threw a 4th of July party that will not be forgotten by any who were there. Sue's smiles and laughs always felt like hugs. Thanks to Suzanna and Margaret for taking such good care of our cherished friends.

Dear Ross Family, I can remember how supportive and helpful your Mother was to my Mother back when I was a "Hollie Collie Dollie" in the 70's. As a scholarship student, Mrs. Ross always made time to explain all financial matters to me and my Mama. My Mama has been gone for over 30 years now but, she was particularly fond of your Mama. She was a very special lady and I'll always be grateful for her thoughtfulness and kindness. May the angels surround you and those you love with their healing wings to bring you comfort and care. With Heartfelt Sorrow, Artrice (Brothers) Williams-Class of 1978
