Obituary of Daniel Albright

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Through God's Grace and Abounding Love, at 60 years of age, Daniel Graham Albright, Jr. "D.G." crossed over the threshold to dwell in his eternal, heavenly home on July 19, 2013. When D.G. learned of his terminal cancer, his desire was to be strong and to be a good witness to others. "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." Phil 4:13. D.G. walked this out so very well knowing "And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you or forsake you: do not fear or be dismayed." Deut. 31:8. Holding on to God's promises and assurance of salvation, D.G. was able to share with others that there is victory in death.

D.G.'s love and many precious memories will always be cherished by his wife, Sandy, his son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Amy, and his daughter Hilary. He is survived as well by his parents, Dan and Becky Albright, his sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Jerry Brown, sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Ronald Johnson, one nephew (Bret), two nieces (Tina and Tiffany), a great-niece (Victoria), and the families of his dear aunts and uncles in NC. D.G. was preceded in death by his younger sister, Vicki.

D.G. asked to be remembered as one who "never met a stranger." He dearly loved his family, his church family at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and his friends too numerous to count. His family, church family and friends (including his dear friend, Vic Skaff) returned love to D.G. and he was so very thankful to each and every one of them. During his career in direct care and administrative nursing positions, D.G. developed many close, enduring relationships with colleagues who were of great support to him as he faced the challenges of his failing health.

D.G. valued and enjoyed God's creation-living in the mountains, and landscaping his cabin's yard with beautiful flowers and many a hunted river rock. D.G. also loved his pet dogs and grand dogs who have shared life at the cabin and many ice cream parties with him. His time of illness was brightened by the newest addition, his "pet therapy dog", Dallas.

The Albright family wishes to express sincere thanks to those who cared for D.G. and provided us guidance and support during his illness. Among those we wish to thank are Dr. Fintel, Dr. Monahan, Dr. Harron, and Dr. Schmidt, the staff members on 6th floor (East and West) at Lewis gale Medical Center and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, who saw us through the home stretch.

It is our wish that memorial gifts be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2216 Peters Creek Road NW, Roanoke, VA 24017; to lift up the continued sharing of God's word on that hill and surrounding community of NW Roanoke. Times to gather and honor D.G.'s memory at Simpson Funeral Home. 5160 Peters Creek Road, will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday, July 22, 2013.
