James Walter Reep passed away on July 15, 2013 in Roanoke, VA. Jim was born in Chillicothe, (Ross County,) Ohio, on December 24, 1938, the first son of Harold Walter and Evelyn Leota (Simmons) Reep. He graduated from Lewisburg Joint High School in Lewisburg, PA in June 1956. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve while still in high school and served briefly at the Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland. He entered active naval service in November 1957 at Philadelphia, PA. During his active duty, he was assigned to Pentagon in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and the Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). His final assignment was to the Department of Defense Computer Institute, Washington Navy Yard where he retired in December 1976 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Jim spent many years associated with the Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for service to youth from the National Capital Area Council, Washington, DC. Jim was involved in genealogy for more than 35 years. He was also a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Roanoke, Virginia. He was predeceased by his father Harold in 1978, his mother Evelyn in 1991 and an infant brother, Donald Raymond Reep who was born and died in Mar 1946, plus two great-grandchildren: Abagail and Haydn Koldys. Jim married his wife, the former Louise Aberedeen Klingler on January 21, 1957, in Frederick, MD. They have four children: sons Donald Walter and wife Cathy J. (Crymes) Reep of Greenbelt, MD; Gregory Allen and wife Terri L. (Roundtree) Reep of Norfolk, VA; David Wayne and wife Janet L. (Crowder) Reep of Roanoke, VA; and a daughter Patricia Louise Reep of Salem, VA. He is also survived by a brother Robert Eugene and wife Marla D. (McPherson) Reep of Cicero, NY. Grandchildren: Heather Ryan, Nathaniel and Nikol (Adams)Reep , Kendra (Reep) and Jason Sides, Alexander Reep, Kaitlyn Reep, Briana Klapp, Carissa Klapp, Jerrett Seeley, and Joseph Seeley. Great grandchildren: Keera Reep and Ethan Hastey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Blue Ridge Mountains Council, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 1606, Roanoke, VA 24019 or Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 4040 Williamson Rd. NW, Roanoke, VA 24012. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Lewisburg, PA. Interment with military honors will be in the Veteran's Section of Lewisburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5- 8 pm on Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd in Roanoke. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home 540 366-0707.
