James Nelson Smith, 65, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 6, 2013. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. He was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Dotty Fisher Smith; mother, Mary Lee (Togie) Taylor of Salem; sister, Nancy S. English of Roanoke; niece, Carolyn Williams, husband Ben and their children, Grace and Claire all of Roanoke; nephew, Michael English also of Roanoke; cousin, Jane Plumb, husband George and their children, G.W. and Ben. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Gideons International for the placement of memorial bibles. Funeral services will be conducted Noon Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Robert Mullen. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
