Wilma Simpson Spangler, 89, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina,( formerly of Vinton) wife of the late Louis Spangler, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013. Wilma was born March 16, 1924 in Emory Gap, Tennessee, daughter of the late McKinley and Maggie Moore Simpson . She was a Nurse Practitioner in Anesthesiology. A graduate of Laird Memorial School of Nursing at the University of Alabama - Birmingham, Wilma was known to many as "Miss Vogue." She was a former resident of The Palms of Mt. Pleasant and Somerby of Mt. Pleasant. Wilma volunteered for the MS Society, and was a Girl Scout leader. She was an fanatic about exercise and adored her many friends at the Roanoke Athletic Club. Her other interests included shopping, reading, crafts, and buying houses. She was a former member of Thrasher United Methodist Church in Vinton, VA. and South Roanoke United Methodist Church in Roanoke, VA. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Norvelle and her husband, Rob of Mount Pleasant, SC; her grandson, Brandon Norvelle of Seneca, SC; and her sisters, Dreama Starr of Moncks Corner, SC, and Margie Horton of Lexington, SC. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addtion to her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ralph Simpson, Mattie Wilson, McKinley "Hunkie" Simpson, Jr., Bill Simpson, and Juanita Herron. Memorials may be made to the Roanoke Rescue Mission Free Clinic, P.O. Box 11525, Roanoke, VA 24022 or to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412. The family wants to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Spangler's caregivers, Jessica Collins of Georgetown, SC and Jackie Johnson of Charleston, SC. In addition, they wish to ask Mary Ann King of Roanoke, VA and Linda Corbett of Hardy, VA to serve as Honorary Pallbearers. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013 in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton by Monsignor Joseph Lehman. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
