Obituary of Shirley Hudgins

Shirley Ann Staton Hudgins, 77, of Roanoke passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 at her home. She was born on September 20, 1935 at Laurel Creek, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Robert and Rose Staton. Ms Hudgins was previously employed at Valley Metro in Virginia Beach, The Green Market in Salem and Dollar General in Roanoke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward "Burt" Hudgins, brothers, Robert Staton and Danny Staton, sisters, Bertha Malone, Bethel Hungate-Lilly and Beverly Staton-Lilly. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Vanessa Davis-Twiford and her husband Marty of Clayton, N.C.; step daughter, Lydia Morris and her husband Dave of Richmond; brother, Jim Staton and his wife Priscilla of Mooresville, N.C. and a sister, Sharon Fink and her husband Ronnie of Coal City, West Virginia. Six grandchildren, Brandon Fendley and his wife Jaci of Kernersville, N.C.; Nick Kelly and his wife Amy of Wendell, N.C. Megan Kelly of Clayton, N.C.: Meredith Griffith and husband Daniel of State College, Pa.; and Nicole and Katie Morris of Richmond; five great granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Payton, Kyndall, Maddie, and Harper, and another one on the way. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as two special friends, Irene and Kathy, and a good neighbor, Tom. In complying with her wishers her remains will be cremated. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday June 26, 2013 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens 5737 Airport Road.
