Jack Steven (Steve) Proffitt, 51 of Roanoke passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was preceded in death by his half sister Cherie Deyerle. Steve was a graduate of Northside High School. His many hobbies included bowling and playing the guitar. Surviving are his parents James and Nancy Proffitt; brother, Lt. Col. Scott Proffitt and wife Cora of Lincoln, California; half brother, Mike Deyerle of Roanoke; nephews, Casey Motley and wife Angela, Aaron Deyerle and wife Tanya, Paul Deyerle, Cameron, Caden and Derek Proffitt; niece Mandi Deyerle McDonough and husband Joshua; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorials may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) P O Box 20864 Roanoke, Virginia 24018. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. James Episcopal Church 4515 Delray Street by the Rev. Robert T. Copenhaver. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
