Obituary of Wanda Body

God called Wanda (Janie) Shrader Body of Roanoke to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 13, 2013. She was born in Niday, Va. on November 16, 1932 a daughter of the late Charles Gratton and Louisa Leftwich Shrader. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Dennis W. Body, Sr., her dear sister, Vernie Hayes Russell, and three brothers, Douglas, Everett, and Troy Sharader. Janie worked for Smartwear Irving Saks as an Estee Lauder/Lancome beauty advisor for many years and retired as a beauty consultant for Thalhimers Department Store. Janie was an avid gardener and grew beautiful roses. She loved the beach, and enjoyed making wonderful home cooked meals for her family during the holidays. She resided at the Our Lady of the Valley Retirement Community where she leaves behind many cherished friends, and a special friend Ken Skinnell of Bedford. Janie is survived by her loving children, Janie Body Blankenship of Roanoke; and Dennis W. Body, Jr. of Richmond; grandsons, Matthew A. Blankenship and Marcus L. Blankenship; and a beloved great granddaughter, Clarissa A. Blankenship, all of Roanoke. The family would like to thank the incredibly caring staff at Our Lady of the Valley for making our mom feel at home; the Gentle Shepherd Hospice staff for their love and support during the last five months of mom's life; and the Palliative Care team at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care of mom during her last days. A special thank you to Maryann Ashby, Michael and Johnny Nunley, for all the love and friendship they shared with mom through the years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Angels of Assi of the Roanoke Valley There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Private interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
